About KULAN
Horn Youth Services Foundation (KULAN) was established by members of the African descendant community in Alberta to support the growth and empowerment of African descendant communities in Edmonton, Alberta.
Since 2017, we have provided services addressing the unique and complex needs of African descendant youth and families in Edmonton. As a non-profit organization, the mission of Horn Youth Services Foundation (KULAN) is to offer a variety of programs and initiatives that empower youth and families, foster integration into the wider community, and promote social and economic opportunities. We also organize community activities and events that allow members to share their experiences and talents while learning about Canadian culture.
Horn Youth Services Foundation (KULAN) is committed to empowering individuals and families by providing resources, sharing knowledge, and fostering collaborations with other organizations. Our aim is to build vibrant, healthy communities through strategic partnerships, the development of impactful programs, and the promotion of inclusivity and opportunity.
We strive to address the challenges facing African descendant communities in Alberta by offering practical tools and resources, including training on leadership structures, conducting effective meetings, engaging in strategic planning, and making informed decisions.
Through collaboration with stakeholders and community members, we work to identify community needs, set goals, and find sustainable solutions to overcome challenges.
At Horn Youth Services Foundation (KULAN), learning and growth are ongoing. We continually adapt to emerging trends and implement updated policies and practices to meet the evolving needs of our community..

Youth Services
KULAN offers group and individual online activities to all students including newcomer throughout the school year including free homework help including language. The purpose of the program is to reduce risk behaviours, promote a structured and safe environment for the students. Our youth program is also an opportunity to bridging the gap between students, parents and school administration.
Tutoring and OST
KULAN provides private tutoring to K-12 students. We offer several types of academic support, such as 1-on-1 tutoring, small group classes and online teaching. Our 1-on-1 classes are based on the principles of Direct Instruction method which has proven superior to others.
